I’ve Been Trying to Change My Life for 30+ Years

As the title suggests I’ve been trying to change my life for a long time.  One of the things that’s held me back is a drug addiction.

I’m currently in a drug rehab facility in San Francisco.  I came here because I’ve been homeless for the last nine years and I figured I’d try to get sober again.  This is the 13th rehab I’ve been in and I hope it’s my last.  I have had clean time before so I know I can get clean and sober and lead a ‘normal’ life.

What Am I Doing to Change My Life?

I’m reading a lot of mindfulness stuff.  Mindfulness is incredible.  First, there is no stress in the present moment and secondly, it helps to control the emotions.

When I first starting practicing mindfulness walking my feelings were in check and I felt a lot better about the future.  I stopped walking so I now have to start over.

I’ve also started writing and posting articles on my How to Change Your Life Now blog.  I read self-help articles to get ideas about what to write. 

One of the things I’ve started doing again are positive affirmations.  I have been extremely successful with affirmations.  The last time I was clean I started my own business and I started getting so much work I had to hire two additional writers to keep up with demand.

How to Use Positive Affirmations to Get What You Want

Affirmations don’t necessarily have to be positive. They can be negative or they can be neutral. It’s up to you to write the affirmation so you can write whatever you want to create in your life.

The subconscious mind will help you get whatever you want so you can be as creative as you want when you write an affirmation. If you want blond hair, for example, you can write an affirmation such as “I now have beautiful blond hair.”

  • Perform the ‘mental exercise’ every morning shortly after you wake up and again every night right before you go to sleep.
  • If you lay down on your bed place your arms at your side instead of on top of your chest.
  • If you sit on a chair place your hands on your lap.

Why are Positive Affirmations so Powerful?

The language of the subconscious mind is pictures. That’s why newspapers call very successful people and leaders “visionaries.” When you say an affirmation you are subconsciously creating a picture in your mind that tells the subconscious what to create in your life.

And when you say the affirmation over and over you are steadily focusing on what you really want so the subconscious mind will find ways to get it for you. Another reason affirmations are so powerful is because you are actually using the Law of Attraction which is also known as Like Attracts Like.

When you consistently focus on the same image in your mind you are telling your subconscious mind, “This is what I want!” You now know how use positive affirmations to get what you want.

The trick to being successful is to perform the mental exercise every day without fail until you get what you want. You cannot stop no matter how long it takes. Be patient and know that you’ll get your desire at some point.
